Alumnus enters global spotlight on Pakistani news network

Danial Afzal BA ’12 puts his rhetoric and media studies degree to good use covering international sporting events for Pakistani television.

Danial Afzal BA ’12 is a sports and entertainment anchor and host for PTV World, an English language 24/7 news channel in Pakistan that also serves Central Asia and the Middle East.

After graduating from Lewis & Clark with a degree in rhetoric and media studies, Afzal began working as a marketing account manager for Cydcor, a marketing firm in Chicago, where he conducted sales forecasting, prepared advertising strategies, and developed marketing campaigns for AT&T and other companies. While he was named a “pace setter” for his organization, Afzal knew that he wanted to branch out of marketing into the world of mass media.

Originally from Pakistan, Afzal returned to his home country to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He was quickly hired as an anchor and host for at the Pakistani Television Corporation. Now he covers international sporting events including the Tour de France, Wimbledon Championships, and the Cricket World Series. His biggest assignment yet came when he was asked to host several shows during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

“I am thankful to Lewis & Clark for providing me with a network of peers and friends from all over the world,” said Afzal. “I was able to draw upon this network to find soccer fans from Brazil, the Netherlands, Scotland, Russia, Argentina, South Korea, Chile, Uruguay, France, Mexico, and the United States to interview for my World Cup programs.”
