Internet and Network Resources Outages

In an effort to help maintain the health of our network, the IT team is embarking on a major overhaul of all of our back-end network infrastructure. Our current network systems are in need of replacing in order to maintain our current level of connectivity.
Our new network infrastructure will not necessarily add anything exciting, but will ensure that we are poised to take advantage of newer technologies and emerging trends in IT. With the implementation of our new network, we will have prepared ourselves for the convergence of data, voice, and video needs. And most importantly, we will be on a supported, scalable, and more current platform.
As we go forward with the implementation over the next couple of months, we will have to physically change out every network switch, in every building, on every campus. This amounts to over 160 total switches!
As we move through each area in the next couple of months, it is inevitable that we will need to disrupt daily processes; however, we will do everything we can to minimize the impact from this change as well as to communicate when we plan on making the change. Our plan is to make the changeovers from 6AM to 8AM so as to disrupt service for the fewest people possible. We will contact the departments within each building that we will be working on at least two days in advance to inform people when the network will be unavailable to them.
We recognize the importance of access to the internet and other network resources, particularly in an academic environment, so we do not take the decision to disrupt that access lightly. We have worked with an experienced vendor to construct a plan to minimize problems, but rest assured that our staff will be available to respond quickly to any issues that do arise. We appreciate your support and patience as we implement this change.
