The numbers are in, and Lewis & Clark is one of only 12 colleges and universities in the nation to earn recognition as a top producer of both Fulbright student and Fulbright faculty scholars for 2014-15.

“Congratulations to our distinguished scholars,” said President Barry Glassner. “This tremendous achievement is the latest evidence that, at Lewis & Clark, great teaching propels our students forward. We are proud to stand with the Fulbright Program in our deep commitment to developing leaders who build understanding across cultures.”

Today’s Chronicle of Higher Education lists the colleges and universities with the highest number of students/alumni and current faculty members who received Fulbright grants for the 2014-15 academic year. This year and over the last ten years, Lewis & Clark students and alumni have earned more Fulbright U.S. honors than those from any other college or university in Oregon.

As noted in the Chronicle, nine students and alumni from the College of Arts and Science earned Fulbright U.S. awards for 2014-15. In addition, two more CAS graduates received awards administered by Austria’s Fulbright program, and one alumna from the Law School earned a Fulbright U.S. award. These 12 young scholars are currently teaching or conducting research in 11 different countries.

Faculty members who received Fulbright U.S. Scholars awards for 2014-15 are Moriah Bostian, assistant professor of economics, and Melissa Powers J.D. ’01, associate professor of law and director of the school’s Green Energy Institute.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright Program provides students, faculty, and professionals with grants for graduate study, research, or teaching in countries all around the world.
