Students compete in international rounds of Jessup Moot Court Competition

The Lewis & Clark Jessup International Law Moot Court Team finished 2nd in the South Regional this year and advanced to the International Rounds held the first week of April in Washington D.C.

What a great year for international law at Lewis & Clark!

In addition to the exciting events put together by the international law program and the International Law Society, the Lewis & Clark Jessup International Law Moot Court Team finished 2nd in the South Regional this year and advanced to the International Rounds held the first week of April in Washington D.C.  They also were honored to participate in a post-International Rounds event in San Francisco with students from Hastings, Cornell and three Chinese law schools that helped them further hone their advocacy skills and engage with other like-minded law students intellectually and culturally.

At the South Regional competition, L&C had the 2nd place memorial and two students, George MacDonald and Tom Payne, finished in the top 10 out of over 70 speakers. From there, the team advanced to the international competition in D.C. where we faced teams from Wayne State, Romania, Cambodia and Stanford. While we did not advance to the top 32, we had some terrific performances from our team members and an amazing opportunity to connect with law students and lawyers (who served as judges) from all over the world both during the rounds and at the many social events in the evenings.

It was an experience our students will not soon forget and we are looking forward to the 2017 competitions. The 2017 topic will address State interests in shared international watercourses and the rights of refugees. It promises to be exciting and challenging.
