H1N1 Vaccine Update 11/20/09

H1N1 vaccine updates

Greetings,

Lewis & Clark Wellness Services continue to work with Multnomah County Health Department to secure doses of H1N1 vaccine.  While vaccine supplies are still limited, we hope to have a small supply of H1N1 vaccines available before semester break in December.  Because of the limited supply, if we get them, we will only be able to provide vaccines to individuals who have been prioritized as being at the greatest risk:

  • Pregnant women
  • Health care workers and first responders
  • People aged 5-64 with underlying health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes and cardio-pulmonary disease
  • Caregivers of children under 6 months of age

Please consult with a healthcare professional if you are unsure if you are a member of a priority group.  We will not be able to offer H1N1 vaccines to otherwise healthy individuals who are not in these priority groups before the end of this semester.  As the supply increases, we anticipate being able to offer H1N1 vaccine more widely during spring semester.

Keep in mind that information on vaccine availability has been changing frequently.  As soon as we have doses of the H1N1 vaccine, we will be notifying the L&C community via email and posting the information on this website and the Source.  Please check emails and this website regularly.

For Students: If you are unable to obtain an H1N1 vaccine at Lewis & Clark, please consider doing so in your home community over Thanksgiving or Winter Break.  To locate a vaccine provider near you, contact your County Health Department.  Additionally, you can visit http://www.flu.oregon.gov/Pages/VaccineLocations.aspx for a nation-wide flu clinic locator.

There may be some local off-campus sites for the H1N1 vaccine. Please check with your health care provider or visit the websites listed below.

We encourage community members to call potential vaccination sites before going there, since suppliers may not have H1N1 vaccine, may run out of vaccine at any time, or may only be giving the vaccine to certain priority groups.
