The Lewis & Clark community is mourning the heartbreaking news that Assistant Professor of Physics Shannon O’Leary and her spouse, Adam Clausen, died in a car collision on Monday, December 26. Their son, Felix, survived and was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Upon hearing the news, an incredible outpouring of love and support is coming from friends all over the world. Many loved ones are lighting two candles (one for each of them) from whatever part of the world they are in.

This “lighting the world ablaze” in honor of Shannon and Adam began on the day of the funeral, December 30 at 3 p.m.

Lewis & Clark plans to hold a celebration of life soon after students return to campus for spring semester. In the meantime, we reach out to each other for care and support.

An informal gathering to remember Shannon and Adam will be held on Friday, January 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the Gregg Pavilion.

Additionally, the College has a 24-hour counseling service available for students at 503-265-7804. Faculty and staff may contact the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at 800-433-2320.

If you wish to support Felix, a GoFundMe account has been established on his behalf. You can contribute to that initiative here. If you wish to honor Shannon’s life and work with a donation to Lewis & Clark, please contact Director of Annual Giving Stephen LeBoutillier
