In 2008, Northwest Writing Institute director, Kim Stafford, was awarded a Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC) fellowship.  The award, totaling $20,000, allowed Stafford to launch the project, Pilgrim at Home:  Local Encounters Beyond the Epoch of the Car, a collection of essays chronicling the walking life of Portland.

Stafford has spent the past year walking through the streets of Portland and engaging in conversations with the community.  These conversations will be compiled into a collection of essays chronicling his experiences and the sense of place captured in these walks and conversations.

More information about the RACC fellowship can be found here.  Read about the Pilgrim at Home project here.
