In January, B-Side Book Club, an a cappella group composed mostly of Lewis & Clark alumni, performed on KGW-TV’s “Mic Check” in Portland.

The group was promoting their new self-titled EP, which is an eclectic mix of funk, folk, and other musical genres.

The group of close-knit friends, all of whom participated in a cappella during college, wanted to continue singing together after graduation. Over dinner in fall 2015, they decided to form a new group, B-Side Book Club, to share their love of music. Since then, they’ve performed in many venues, from music festivals to a cappella competitions, from fundraisers to weddings.

Mason Wordell BA ’15, one of the group’s 14 members, says his favorite thing about B-Side Book Club is its hardworking and authentic people. “We are all committed to singing and being with one another,” he says. “It feels like a sacred space, where we enter together to sing songs that bring us joy. By performing, we can share that joy with others.”

Interested in hearing them live? B-Side Book Club will be performing “moonlight a cappella” on Friday, June 22, as part of Alumni Weekend. You can also find their EP online at b-sidebookclub.bandcamp.com.
