Starting July 1, 2018, you’ll see a new item on your pay stub for Oregon’s statewide transit tax. The tax is one-tenth of one percent (.001)—or $1 per $1,000.

Lewis & Clark will be automatically withholding the tax—just like the personal income tax—so employees don’t have to do or change anything.  You will see the new tax listed in the Employee Taxes section of your pay slips and it will be included in box 14 of on your Annual Form W2 Tax Statements.

Unlike the personal income tax, there’s no withholding exemption for this tax.  The new transit tax is calculated based on the employee’s gross wages before any exemptions or deductions and will be withheld from all earnings PAID on or after 07/01/2018 (regardless of when they were earned.)

Revenue from the statewide transit tax will go to expanding public transportation throughout Oregon.

For more information on how the tax revenues will be used, check out “HB 2017 Funding Package” under “Projects & News” on the Oregon Department of Transportation’s website at www.oregon.gov/odot
