Urgent: Update Java plug-in!
Your Windows computer may be vulnerable to some nasty viruses, just by running an out-of-date version of a popular system program. If you are running a version of JRE (Java Runtime Environment) earlier than 1.6_17, you are susceptible to getting infected with fake AV malware. No end-user interaction is required, as simply visiting a legitimate site while running an old JRE version will allow your computer to be compromised.
Update Java via the Java Control Panel:
- From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel
- Double Click on the Java Icon to access the Java Control Panel
- Select the Update tab
- Click on the Update Now button
- Ensure the AutoUpdates box is checked
- Uncheck (don’t install) the Yahoo! toolbar when offered
