Alumnus Jack Landau BA ’75, JD ’80 was elected to the Oregon Supreme Court in Oregon’s statewide election on May 18.
The Oregon Supreme Court is the highest court in the Oregon judicial branch. The court has seven elected justices. The only court that may reverse or modify a decision of the Oregon Supreme Court is the United States Supreme Court.
As an Oregon Court of Appeals judge, Landau wrote a historic opinion extending rights for the gay and lesbian community in Tanner vs. OHSU.
“People who’ve worked with Landau describe him as focused, courteous, self-assured and highly productive,” The Oregonian opined. “They admire his ability to follow the law to its logical conclusions, which makes him hard to pigeonhole.”
