Language arts professor Ruth Shagoury has recently published three articles about teaching reading and language arts, and about the challenges faced by beginning teachers: “Making Reading Meaningful” (Educational Leadership, March 2010); “What Do New Teachers Need?: Beginning Teachers Working in Urban Under-Performing Schools,” co-authored with Dr. Jessica Early (Educational Leadership, online edition, May 2010); “Learning from the Lived Experiences of New Language Arts Teachers Working in Diverse Urban Schools, ” co-authored with Dr. Jessica Early (Teaching and Teacher Education, May 2010). Ruth Shagoury is the Mary Stuart Rogers Professor of Education at Lewis & Clark’s Graduate School of Education and Counseling.
