Filmmaker Celia Maysles BA ’01 will make her television debut in September when her film Wild Blue Yonder airs on the Documentary Channel. The film centers on her search to learn more about her filmmaker father the late David Maysles.

Wild Blue Yonder was screened at the 2008 South by Southwest Film Festival and debuted in 2007 at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam, where it was one of the most talked about films, according to Variety. The film industry’s leading trade publication named it a top pick, writing that the film, “is bound to raise debate in the industry about who owns the life of someone else.”

The first-person documentary chronicles Maysles’ quest to get to know her father, well-known documentarian David Maysles, who died suddenly when she was seven.

“The point of this story is me finding my dad,” Maysles is quoted as saying about the project. “I wanted people to know how hard it was to lose a parent. To have such a complete void. If I could do what my dad did, it would be like getting to know him through the process. From the fund-raising and the frustrations and the filming, I’d get to walk in his shoes.”
