There are some exciting changes happening with the Payroll Department at Lewis & Clark.  Isaac Dixon, director of Human Resources, sheds some insight into what’s happening.

What changes are in store for Payroll at Lewis & Clark?

Isaac:  The short answer is that as of July 1, 2010, Payroll has merged with Human Resources. We are excited to welcome Sharla Sevy, Payroll Manager and Kathy Robinson, Payroll Specialist, to our team.

Why are you making this change?

Isaac:  The need to share critical information in order to ensure timely and accurate payment to our employees makes this a logical move. Additionally, housing Payroll in the Human Resources office will increase communication, streamline processes, and reduce the need for multiple copies of documentation, thereby conserving resources.

How do you hope this change improves how payroll works?

Isaac:  By combining Payroll and Student Payroll with Human Resources and Student Employment, we have essentially created a “one-stop shop” for our employees and student employees for services related to their employment, benefits and pay. Our goal is to improve customer service levels and employment processing, be better able to coordinate payroll issues, and ensure compliance with all employment related rules and regulations.

What is the timeline for making this change?

Isaac:  The Payroll team has been working under the Human Resources umbrella since July 2010. However, on Thursday, December 2, 2010 they will be physically moving their office into the newly remodeled HR offices on South Campus.

What are the next steps?

Isaac:  As we merge these services, we will continue to look for ways to streamline and automate more and more of the payroll and HR process.
