Bill Layton

Bill Layton has been an instructor of School Counseling at Lewis & Clark since 2001. Bill has taught grades 2, 3, and 6 at various school districts and has been a superintendent, principal, assistant principal and school counselor. He has also worked as a child development specialist and as a migrant summer program director. He is a member of the American School Counseling Association, Oregon School Counseling Association, and Confederation of School Administrators.

Bill’s teaching assignments at Lewis & Clark have included: Ethics, Career Development & Consultation, Academic Development & Consultation, Personal Social Development & Consultation, Practicum in Classroom Instruction and the year long Macro Internship. He has had extensive experience supervising school counseling interns in the schools. Bill loves teaching courses for both first and second year students. He gets excited with all the growth that happens between a first year student and a second year student.

Bill is a member of the Lewis & Clark Courage to Teach Committee, and the Lewis & Clark  Graduate Admissions Committee, the Oregon Youth Authority Advisory Committee, and the Willamette University Early Childhood Education Advisory Committee. He works with the Coalition for School Funding Now, volunteers at The Dougy Center for grieving families, and is a member of 21st Century Site Council.

Bill lives with his wife, Deanna and her son Nicholas in Southeast Portland. His hobbies include: biking, hiking, bird watching, traveling, and reading.
