Facilities Services
Howard Center for Social Sciences
Completed December 2004
This 3-story, 50,000 square foot academic building is planned to accommodate classrooms, faculty offices and departmental facilities for the Social Sciences Division and other programs with breakout space for student and faculty interaction and will replace outdated single-story classrooms. This building will continue the College's progress towards meeting national space standards.
Located directly east of Pamplin Sports Center, the Social Sciences Building forms the western edge of the academic quad with historic Albany across the quadrangle, and the newly expanded library to the south. This location also serves as the gateway building to the campus from the proposed north parking facility. It will initiate development of the upper quad landscape oval creating the first major outdoor space in the north campus, as well as framing the pedestrian system, which will welcome and introduce visitors, staff and students to the Lewis & Clark campus.
Scheduled for occupancy in January 2005, the Social Sciences Building continues the redevelopment of the north campus, which was started with the signature project. Relocation of the personnel and functions within the Faculty Office Building and Thaxter-Throckmorton Classroom Complex will be required prior to construction.
