Design Goals
- The architecture should promote the interaction between students, faculty, and staff.
- The architecture should be strong, classic, Northwest, and fit existing buildings in style.
- The buildings should have much more natural light than the existing.
- The buildings should integrate inside and outside spaces, including operable windows.
- Many people think the bridge is intrusive, an eyesore that obstructs the beauty of the forest beyond. Some like it. Others suggest it be updated and improved.
- There is disagreement regarding the outdoor "corridors." This needs to be discussed further.
- New construction should not look out on the roofs of the existing buildings. Some disagreed.
- It would be nice to have both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities. This should be reviewed as part of program.
- There should be restrooms located close to classrooms.
- A lot of noise is created just outside of classrooms. This is a factor in deciding where to locate them. It should also be considered when locating offices.
- The entry should be welcoming, impressive, and generous. It should be a statement about the unique location of THIS law school. It should express that this is a GREAT institution in a subtle and humble way. It should relate to the new vehicular entry off of Terwilliger.
- New construction should disturb the natural environment as little as possible.
- Any new building(s) should enhance and enrich the existing campus. It should "spread" it as little as possible.
- All new space should be as flexible as possible to accommodate future changes to the program.
- Adequate vehicle and bicycle parking and support transportation should be provided.
