Law School Renovation & Expansion
Completed January 2002
This 45,000 square foot addition, combined with a 25,000 square foot renovation of the existing Boley Law Library, will accommodate expanded library needs, new classrooms, library staff offices and a variety of student organization and related services spaces. This addition will continue Lewis & Clark's progress towards meeting national space standards while maintaining its competitive position with other law schools.
The library expansion will occur at the western end of the existing Boley Library and parking lot. The design will maintain respect for the near environmental protection zones and Terwilliger Boulevard Scenic corridor around the Law School campus, while maximizing the visual connection between buildings and Tryon State Park. A new entrance to the Law School will be created by realigning the Terwilliger-Palater intersection. This will improve traffic and pedestrian safety while enhancing the arrival experience to Lewis & Clark.
Scheduled for occupancy in the fall of 2001, this expansion ensures that the Law School will maintain its academic position within its peer institutions. Relocation of the entrance and construction staging will severely impact the existing law school parking during one and possibly two academic years. Noise, dust and disruption to faculty, staff and students utilizing the existing facilities are also important considerations.
