MEETING NOTES
March 4, 2004
In attendance:

Michael explains the goal of this meeting to establish clear goals for the committee. With those goals the committee will proceed by creating models for specific areas within Templeton that can be renovated, looking at both short term and long term.
Goal Statements:
· Identify ways to enhance opportunities for community interaction.
· Identify ways that students can feel greater “ownership” of the building and involvement in activities in the building.
· Provide a comprehensive WayFinding system that includes an information desk, room identification and building orientation signs.
· Provide Well organized. Adequate and easily accessible student organization office, meeting and work areas.
· Identify food service programs and delivery methods that allow opportunities for interaction among all students, faculty and employees.
· Identify spaces for performances (student lounge)
· Identify ways to use space efficiently
· Improve the interior and exterior public appearance by improved lighting, natural light, painting and finishes upgrades etc.
· Simplify and clarify building circulation and locate activities with high need for public access near entries.
· Find appropriate ways to reinforce the undergraduate student uses and purposes for Templeton.
· Recognize the multi-user nature of the building and find ways to generate rental income during the summer months.
· Provide improved facilities for storage of media and events management equipment and custodial maintenance operations equipment and supplies.
· Evaluate the service and support areas of the building and ensure that they are adequately sized and located to service building uses.
· Provide better and more efficient space for catering operations. Identify issues concerning Bon Appetit space allocation.
· Design ways to improve lighting and overall feeling of the building.
· Identify sustainable building strategies for any renovations within Templeton.
Within the goal statements, actions statements were created for the first 3 goals. Labeled ST for short term and LT for long term.
Student Ownership:
- more student art (ST)
- zone main floor for student groups (ST)
- improve existing student lounge (possibly with the coop store) (ST and LT)
- Student music in the building (ST and LT)
- Ian and Robbie will be working on the technical aspects to see if this will work. Ie. Money, equip., etc.
WayFinding:
- Short tem signage (specify certain areas of concern to deal with) (ST and LT)
- Areas of concern: health center, downstairs to student services)
Adequate Student Space:
- rearranging (downstairs moving to Howard, others moving in???) (Jan. 2005)
- Zoning (ST and LT)
- Main office for smaller student groups to have access to phone, filing cabinets, office space. (ST)
- Strong student activities resource room that can provide supplies, networking. (ST)
- Create arrangement of student groups offices to foster connections between them. (LT)
- Many of these issues not concerning planning process can be taken care of by Temp. Advisory Board
