Subject: Removal of Graffiti
Division: Business and Finance
Department: Facilities Services
Date: May 2012
To help maintain an environment which is consistent with mutual respect for the sensitivities of faculty, staff, and students.
It is the intention of Facilities Services to minimize damage to buildings and grounds by adhering to a procedure, which provides for the timely removal of graffiti.
Procedure for Exterior Surfaces:
All Facilities Services Personnel are to immediately report locations of observed graffiti to their supervisor. A Service Request shall be initiated to remove the graffiti and to repair the damaged property. Graffiti written in chalk may remain in place until it is removed by Facilities Services personnel in their normal course of their duties. Removal of graffiti shall be scheduled for completion not later than five working days from receipt of the Service Request. If the graffiti causes damage, the Service Request shall express the need for immediate graffiti removal by marking the request “urgent.” Facilities Services will strive to complete an “urgent” Service Request within one working day of receipt. Graffiti written in chalk on the walkway surfaces within 25 feet of a building or graffiti written in chalk that is creating a housekeeping issue will be classified as an “urgent” issue.
Procedure for Interior Surfaces:
Upon observation of graffiti, housekeeping personnel shall immediately remove graffiti using standard cleaning methods as specified by their supervisor. If such cleaning actions are unsuccessful in removing the graffiti or if further damage to the defaced surface is expected to result from more severe cleaning techniques, a Service Request shall be initiated to remove the graffiti and to repair the damaged property. The Service Request shall express the need for immediate graffiti removal by marking the Service Request “urgent.” Facilities Services will strive to complete an “urgent” Service Request within one working day of the receipt. In all instances, Facilities Services personnel shall report the nature and location of graffiti to their immediate supervisor prior to the end of their daily working shift.
A formal monthly summary of graffiti reports will be supplied to Campus Safety by Facilities Services.
