Communications Systems Infrastructure
Planning and construction of the Communications Systems Infrastructure began with the remodel of the Watzek Library. At the time of the remodel, a Communication Room was constructed to begin the process of connecting the entire Lewis & Clark College Campus for voice, data, and video. The Infrastructure process involves digging up many parts of the grounds to place large cement vaults, connected by conduits, to house cable for the entire campus. These vaults, conduits and the cable within will be maintained and accessed through the manhole covers that are in place above the vaults. The Infrastructure Project is progressing in conjunction with other Campus Projects so the least amount of disruption will occur.
During the first phase of the Core Landscape Project, three vaults were placed between Watzek and Akin Hall. Currently, in preparation for the new Residence Housing, two vaults are being placed in the ground from Akin Hall to just outside the Facilities Services building. There will be a split vault placed where A1 Residence Hall will be located. This split allows cable to go into two different directions - one through Forest tunnels, across Palatine Hill Road to the South Campus; the other down Huddleson Lane and toward the South Gate.
This new Communications Systems Infrastructure will provide support to all of the Lewis & Clark College Campus effectively and efficiently for many years to come.
