Born: Johannesburg, South Africa
Lived in: South Africa, Malawi, and Swaziland

I was born in a small farming town just outside Johannesburg, South Africa. I then moved to Cape Town where I spent the first seven years of my life. My father’s work led our family to Malawi where I have lived ever since, except for the four years I spent in Swaziland at Waterford Kamhlaba to complete my International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and International Baccalaureate (IB).

The reason I went to Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA was to complete my education. The major influencing factors for choosing Waterford Kamhlaba were the cultural diversity of the school, the history (to give blacks and whites an opportunity to learn together during the apartheid era in South Africa that ended in 1994) and to obtain an education in a developing part of the world.

There is nothing I won't try! The activities that I enjoy the most are swimming, field hockey and rugby. My greatest achievement was in swimming, when I swam for Malawi for four years in the Sub-Saharan invitational swimming gala held in Swaziland, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe. In rugby I played for a local Swaziland club which provided opportunities to compete against South African clubs. I also coached the girls’ rugby team at Waterford Kamhlaba. I would like to continue these activities during my time at Lewis & Clark. I would also like to explore the surrounding areas of Portland and all the other outdoor activities offered.

When it came time to start looking at universities to attend I was not sure where I wanted to go. I looked at a few universities in the UK and the universities on the Shelby Davis scholarship list, which is where I first heard of Lewis & Clark. The factors that drew me to Lewis & Clark, in addition to the great financial support from Shelby Davis and Lewis & Clark, were the size, location and the majors that they offered.
