TCK Advisory Board 2011-2012

History and Goals:

The TCK board was first created in the Fall of 2001. The board meets once a week, and the members serve as advisors who generate ideas and plans that the TCK intern will then set in motion. The board’s main goal is to promote events and advise the TCK intern on projects that they feel will be most effective and support the cause of the TCK group.

Get Involved:

If you are interested in being a member, please e-mail the TCK Intern, Osaebea Amoako, at tck@lclark.edu or come to the International Students and Scholars office located on the 3rd floor of Templeton, above the student government offices!

Raymond Kunikane Terhune, (‘12), Born in Japan this specimen of assorted personal abnormalities and strange activity responses is a classic case of the “what the hell is he doing?” phenomenon. Being raised in Japan he enjoyed the food there and from around the world. His personality spawns from enjoying life and the people around him. Come by and see him, say hi, he’d love to meet you!

eric2Eric Roberts, (‘12), is a senior who works his hardest to be honest and humble. Eric is a Hispanic studies major, though his true passions are martial arts and parkour/ freerunning. Born in California, Eric’s family moved to Indonesia when he was 3, then to Ecuador at the age of 7 and stayed there until coming to Lewis & Clark. Eric tries to be both friendly and helpful with everyone he meets, hoping to better himself and make a difference in others’ lives as much as possible. Eric is currently in the process of making parkour a legitimate activity on campus, whether it be through the athletics department or as a club activity. Wish him luck!

annaAnna Grosse, (‘13) is an International Affairs major and a Junior at L&C. She is a TCK from Hamburg, Germany; but has also grown up in Nepal, Ethiopia, India, China, and Bulgaria. Although Anna was educated in International Schools and was previously familiar with the American culture, coming to College in the States was a completely new adventure. The past two years in Portland, and especially at L&C, have been an invaluable experience that have prepared her well for future endeavors, in any country. In her final year at L&C, Anna hopes to see as much of Oregon and the Pacific North West as possible! She is particularly excited for this year’s 50th International Affairs Symposium, for which she is on the steering committee.

imageKathleen Burckhardt, (‘13), was born to a Swiss father and Oregonian TCK mother in Switzerland where she lived for nine years before moving to Ireland. After a few years in that beautiful green country she moved to the USA, and finally Canada where she has lived for the past seven years. Her experiences in all these countries and growing up in a cross cultural household has brought many delights and also challenges that she enjoys exploring with the other members of the TCK board and the larger L&C community. Currently Kathleen is a sophomore Studio Art major, English minor at Lewis & Clark, combing her passion for creative writing and illustration.

kseniaKsenia Girsova, (‘13) is a sophomore majoring in International Affairs and minoring in Studio Art. She was born in Russia where she grew up the first six years of her life until fate and her father’s company moved her to Hong Kong. Four years later she was coming to terms with yet another culture and language in South Korea, and eight years later fate again placed her in a foreign place, namely Portland, Oregon. Despite the turbulent changes in setting, several things have not changed: she still loves to order the most interesting-sounding item on the menu and discuss everything under the sun over a hot cup of tea.

imageAmanda Wickramasekera, (‘13) aka Mandy, is a TCK who has lived in Sri Lanka, Singapore, England and currently The USA, where she has met some of the sweetest human beings who will be a part of her for the rest of her life. She is a junior double majoring in Environmental Studies and Sociology. She also admits that her current laugh is her favorite one to date. She is an avid dancer and tells that it play huge role in her life. Wherever there is anything involving Bollywood dancing, rest assured that she’d be there!

imageClara Murata, (‘14) is a Belgian-born Japanese who has lived in Japan, Panama, Belgium, Indonesia, and China. Although she does consider all of these places to be her home(s) for various reasons, her home is and always will be Tokyo, Japan! Although having grown up speaking English since she was eight years old, she had never lived in a country where English was the primary language prior to coming to Lewis and Clark. Living in America is a dream come true for her. She loves to go downtown and spend all the money she earns from my job getting delicious food. This year, she hopes to get a bike, bike around, and find EVEN MORE places to eat DELICIOUS FOOD!

ChristaChrista Giesecke, (‘15), is an American TCK who is thrilled to embark on her undergraduate journey at Lewis and Clark College.  Having grown up in various parts of the United States, as well as in Germany and Greece, she identifies strongly with parts of each culture, and enjoys mixing the best elements of each to define her own linguistic, behavioral, cultural, and culinary preferences.  An aspiring Foreign Languages and International Affairs double-major, she is passionate about languages, running, volunteering, outdoor exploration, international and intercultural dialogue, her friends and family, and serving all of those with whom she comes into contact with.

imageUgyen Lhamo (‘15)  is a freshman with the intention of majoring in Psychology because of the way human behavior intrigues her and every sub-category in Psychology entices her. She was born in Thimphu, the capital city of the little-known Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan where she spent the first six years of her life before moving to Rome, Italy. She lived in Rome for another six years before enrolling in boarding school in Switzerland. During her five years spent in boarding school she would travel back and forth and spend her vacations at “home” which varied between Rome, Bhutan and even Bangkok for two years. She is now thoroughly enjoying the beginning of her stay in Portland- her very first visit to the United States.
