2: Pio Fair: Make sure you attend Lewis & Clark’s 6th Annual Pio Fair and learn about all of the fantastic clubs and organizations on campus! This year’s entertainment shall feature MarchFourth Marching Band. Also, are you interested in joining the ISLC and/or TCK boards? Visit their tables and pick up applications!

8. TCK Thursday, 7:30pm Akin Lounge: This year, our very first TCK Thursday shall be dedicated to THE FRESHMEN! Come and meet fellow TCKs and get to know one another over a game of Taboo. Don’t know what Taboo is? That’s okay! Its loads of fun and very easy to learn! RSVP on our Facebook Event Page.

10. Deadline to sign up for Conversation Groups: The conversation group is collaboration between the TCK group and the Academic English Studies (AES) Department. International students studying in the AES program meet with U.S. student volunteers to talk about topics of mutual interest. The groups help international students make U.S. friends and practice their English while the U.S. students learn cross-cultural skills. We are looking for U.S. students to be group leaders and for International Students that want to meet new people and practice their conversation skills. 11. Race Monologues meeting, 6:30pm, Stamm West: The Race Monologues is one of the keynote events for the Ray Warren Multicultural Symposium. In poetry and prose, Lewis & Clark students express their understandings of race, ethnicity, and identity. Each year a new group of students writes an original series of monologues to share powerful feelings and experiences. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, make sure you attend the planning meeting at 6:30pm in Stamm West. Email Kemiyondo Coutinho with any questions at kkc@lclark.edu

17. Lunch Trip to Salvador Molly’s: Do something different this Saturday and Join the TCK group for Lunch at Salvador Molly’s- a family restaurant with food from all over the world. We shall meet at the Templeton bus stop at 10:40am and take the RAZ downtown.

21.Overseas or Off-Campus Program Information Session, 3:00pm, Council Chamber: Thinking about going abroad next fall or full year? Come to the info-session to learn more about the programs offered and have questions answered. Deadline for fall and full year applications is October 24th.

2: AIDS Walk Portland 2011

15. Akin Multicultural Fair: The Multicultural Fair is an annual event put on by the students of Akin Hall, Campus Living, and the Office of Multicultural Affairs that celebrates the rich heritage brought to the college by the diverse experiences of students. Time and Place TBD.

15. TCK Movie Night (Discussion afterward): Come and watch and discuss The Namesake with us. The Namesake is the story of American-born Gogol, the son of Indian immigrants, who wants to fit in among his fellow New Yorkers, despite his family’s unwillingness to let go of their traditional ways. This compelling tale of a search for identity is completely applicable to the experiences most TCKs go through. Snacks Provided.

20: TCK Thursday, 7:00-8:00pm, ISS/OMA/STE Suite: Come and hang out with us as we chat with Valerie White, the L&C Ombudsperson, who is herself a TCK. If you don’t know what an Ombudsperson is… well neither do we but you can come and ask her if you’d like. Valerie is an amazing person with a fascinating life story who in just one casual meeting will make you learn more and feel better about yourself than you might think possible. So come meet her, eat a delicious treat.

25: Career Workshop with 3CE, 4:00pm, Albany 218: Upperclassmen, have you started looking for jobs or exploring graduate school or other alternatives? Underclassmen, are you looking for an internship or winter/summer job? Come and get some advice on writing resumes, interviews, graduate school and more.

27: Pumpkin Carving for Halloween, 7:00-8:30pm, Stamm: Halloween is coming up, so come and join the TCK group and ISLC in the fun, American tradition of pumpkin carving. Everything you need will be provided for you, so all you have to do is show up! Halloween Candy Provided!

November

3: TCK Thursday, 7:00-8:30pm, Akin Hall: Cookies & Conversation! Come together with other TCKs and friends to bake cookies and drink hot chocolate while having some good conversation based around a short TCK related article and our experiences. Greg Caldwell, our fabulous, recently retired International student director, will join us for the fun!

09-11: Ray Warren Multicultural Symposium, Various times and locations: Make sure to check out all the multicultural events happening this week during our annual Ray Warren’s Multicultural Symposium! Follow this link to a full schedule of events. 

15: Japan Night, 5:00-7:00pm, Fields Dining Hall: Join members of Japan club, scholars of Japanese language and culture, faculty, staff and Japanese exchange students in celebration of all things Japan via food and dance.

24: Thanksgiving Dinner: If you are going to be around Portland during Thanksgiving, make sure you RSVP for the Thanksgiving dinner for International students/TCKs! We’ll be providing homemade turkey with gravy, along with mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce etc. to make sure your stomach is happy this Thanksgiving!

07: Book club meeting #1- Home Keeps Moving, 8:00-9:00pm, Stewart Hall:  Come to our first meeting of the semester to discuss Heidi Sand-Hart’s debut novel. We will engage in discussion about the TCK-related issues that the author raises in her book.   Discussion topics shall include the central themes of the book and how they relate to everybody’s own experiences, so there shall be plenty of room for personal contributions. All are welcome to join! Don’t miss out!

 

09: TCK Thursday: Society, 8:00-9:00pm, Templeton Foyer: Two groups, or “societies”, in two separate rooms, each think up 3 “rules”/ common etiquette for their group. Then, one by one, members of each society are sent to try and figure out the rules of the respective society. They are kicked out of that society if they violate any of its rules. The winning group is the one who figures out all of their opponent’s rules first. Fun and easy-to-learn, this promises to be a great event. *snacks provided*

25: TCK Thursday ON SATURDAY, 10:50am, Meeting at the Templeton RAZ Stop: Join us for TCK Thursday on a Saturday to explore the Portland’s world of food carts, no passport needed ;) Sign up before Wednesday the 22nd  and we will give you $5 to go towards your meals for that outing. That’s right… we will pay you to eat! For those joining us from campus, we well be catching the 10:50 a.m. Pio Express, and for those joining us from areas off campus, please join us outside the Starbucks on 6th & Salmon at 11:20 am Come share and enjoy food from around the world and meet some new friends.

28: Skype Conference with TCK and debut author- Heidi Sand-Hart, Time & Place TBD:  This shall be out last book club meeting. During this final discussion, we will have the opportunity to participate in a conversation with Heidi herself to give readers the chance to interact directly with the author and to delve deeper into the issues she raises in her book. 03. The 47th Annual International Fair: Ubuntu.  Take part in this visual and gustatory celebration of the cultural diversity present on campus. Students have been preparing menus, performances and displays all year long!

18. Our World Map: A community project:  Take part in this interactive community project as we try and visualize how members of the Lewis & Clark community are involved across the world! Label and place pins in one of two maps located across campus and tell us how you identify with different parts of the world.

21. SPRING INTO ACTION/LOSE THE SHOES: Spring into Action is a campus-wide day of service coordinated through The Center for Career and Community Engagement. For the third year in a row, the TCKs will host “Lose the Shoes” - a 3v3 barefoot soccer tournament aimed at raising money for HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns across the globe!
