Lewis & Clark

Prospect Research and Management

Question: As a development officer, should I use your capacity as the ask amount?

Answer: It depends. The main purpose of using capacity rating is to segment a pool of prospects or to categorize many prospects into different groups. Please keep in mind that the capacity that we come up with only tells you if the prospect has the money to make a major gift and does not tell you if he or she is willing or inclined to give, either to Lewis & Clark or to other organizations. When all conditions are met and the prospect is very inclined to give, you are certainly encouraged to base your ask amount on the capacity.
