Schedules and Timelines
New Media
Websites take time to develop and require careful thought and planning. You will benefit from meeting with the new media team early in the process. If you already have a site, remember to meet with us when considering new pages for events, conferences, and programs.
In general, we follow these guidelines:
- Creation of a new site: 4-6 weeks
- Updates to an existing site: 1-2 weeks
Note: Schedules begin when we receive final, approved content from you. If you have not finished your planning at this point, your project will likely experience delays.
We will do our best to handle emergency requests, but please note that we must prioritize work based on institutional needs.
LiveWhale allows you to make regular updates and additions to your own website. We offer LiveWhale training classes as well as individual training sessions. Please schedule individual sessions with us at least a week in advance.
Publications
The length of your schedule will depend on factors such as the complexity of your project, the degree of editing required, routing and approval time, special photo or art needs, and the workload of the publications team. We will establish a schedule with you at the start of your project, if not before. Please be aware that this schedule relies on your timely submission of final text. You can expect delays if you miss your copy deadline. We also schedule around Lewis & Clark holidays and your availability to review proofs.
In general, we follow these guidelines:
- Revision of an existing piece: 4-5 weeks
- New project or substantial revision: 6-8 weeks
- Book-length piece: 3-9 months
Note: Schedules begin when we receive final copy from you and end on the date the printed piece is delivered to campus or a mailing house.
Public Relations
Please consult with the public relations team at least one month ahead of your event to identify goals, needs, and target audiences. Submitting information to media outlets does not guarantee it will appear in print or be broadcast so it is best to consider a wide array of options to spread the word about your work, program, or project. In most instances, an event does not make for a news story but we can brainstorm how to tell a larger, more compelling story that increases chances for coverage and assess how to reach appropriate outlets that might be interested in getting the word out to their constituents.
Learn more about what outlets the public relations team utilizes.
For internal communications, we publish The Source, a newsletter for Lewis & Clark faculty and staff, to the Web every other Monday during the academic year and monthly during the summer. Please submit your item by the Wednesday prior to publication. Include complete details. We reserve the right to edit for style and space considerations.
Stationery
Your stationery items will be delivered around the 20th of the month following the one in which you placed your order. For example, if you order business cards in October, they should arrive about November 20.
One-week rush service is available for a 25 to 50 percent higher price, depending on the product. We ask that you consider carefully before placing a rush order. Besides costing you more, rush orders take extra time in our office and hinder us from serving you and the institution in other ways.
You can save significantly by planning ahead and projecting your needs. The greater the quantity you order, the lower your per-piece price will be.
Unlike other stationery products, mailing labels are produced in our office. We will deliver these orders about a week after you complete the online mailing label request form.
