• 7:00pm: Basics of Buddhism with Yangsi Rinpoche
  Yangsi Rinpoche was recognized as the reincarnation of Geshe Ngawang Gendun, a renowned scholar and practitioner from Western Tibet, at the age of six. Rinpoche is Spiritual Director of Dharma Friendship Foundation in Seattle, Washington. Rinpoche is the author of Practicing the Path: A Commentary on the Lamrim Chenmo, published in 2003 by Wisdom Publications. Rinpoche teaches in English, and is admired wherever he travels for his unique presentation of the Dharma, his interest in and enthusiasm for Western culture, and his evident embodiment of the wisdom and compassion of the Buddhist path.

  On Monday, March 4th the Interfaith Council Souljourn series is offering an opportunity for students to visit a Russian Orthodox Church.  We will meet at 4:45 PM at the lower level of the chapel and car pool to the church where we will meet Fr. George Gray.  He will introduce us to the Orthodox faith, and give us a tour of the amazing church sanctuary, which features incredible art and icons.  Space is limited, so please contact Willa Keegan-Rodewald (wkeeganrodewald@lclark.edu) to reserve a place.

  A Celebration of Life for Kristi Williams will be held on Sunday, February 10 at 2 PM in Agnes Flanagan Chapel.  Kristi had taught and worked at Lewis & Clark since 1982, and was serving as Associate Director of Academic Advising at the time of her death.  A reception will follow immediately after the celebration.

• 7:00pm: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration
  The Celebration begins Monday, January 21st at 7pm in the Council Chamber.  We will screen Dr. King’s speech “I Have a Dream” and then have a silent march to the Chapel at 7:30 PM where jazz musician Devin Phillips will perform and we will have readings from Dr. King followed by a candlelight vigil.  This year’s theme is Bending Towards Justice.  Bring a friend and celebrate this important holiday by honoring the legacy of Dr. King.  
  
  We will continue to remember Dr. King’s work for equality and justice throughout the week.  Events will be held daily at 7pm in the Stamm Dining Room in Templeton Student Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  All these events are free and open to the public.

• 8:00pm - 9:00pm: Annual Holiday Service of Sacred Song & Verse
  The 40th annual Service of Sacred Song & Verse features traditional advent scripture readings, congregational singing of Christmas carols and wonderful holiday and sacred music. The theme this year is “Celebrating Stories and Songs of the Season.” There will be vocal performances by the Lewis & Clark Cappella Nova with the Alumni choir and the Women’s Chorus. An organ prelude and postlude along with brass music played by Columbia Brass will also highlight the program.  Come enjoy a wonderful celebration of the season!

  Take a field trip to the Dharma Rain Zen Center in S.E.   A concert in memory of Gus Mattersdorff, Professor Emeritus of Economics, will be held on Saturday, August 25 at 2 p.m. in the Agnes Flanagan Chapel. The concert will feature the Oregon Chorale of Hillsboro, who will perform some of Gus’s favorite music by Bach, Brahms, and Wagner.  A reception immediately following the concert will be held in Stamm Dining Room in Templeton, where there will be an opportunity to share remembrances and visit with his wife Ellie, sons Donald and Peter and other family members and friends.

  Seniors, their families and friends, and the wider Lewis & Clark community are all invited to attend this spiritually inclusive event.  The 2012 Baccalaureate will feature student reflections and performances of song, music, and dance along with prayers and an inspirational keynote speech by Juli Fulks.  There will be 22 seniors participating in this uplifting celebration of their Lewis & Clark experiences of “Learning, Living, Loving, Leaving.”

  Rwanda Remembrance Day Screening of the film about the Rwanda genocide “Shake Hands with the Devil.” This film is based on Lieutenant-General Romeo Dallaire’s account of the horrific events that ravaged this beautiful African country in 1994.  There will be remarks by LC students Kelvine Ngerero and Matthew Rugamba, both from Rwanda.
