H1N1 Flu Virus News and Information

How to Reduce Your Risk

  • Stay informed.  We will provide periodic updates to the community.  Throughout this year, Lewis & Clark will be following guidance for the CDC, the Oregon Public Health Division,  and the Multnomah County Health Department.
  • Everyone should take these everyday steps to protect your health and lessen the spread of this new virus:
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
    • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
    • Try to aviod contact with sick people.
  • Encourage students  with flu-like symptoms to isolate themselves and to report their illness to the Student Health Service.
  • We anticipate that an H1N1 flu vaccine will be available this fall.   We will keep our community members posted about options for receiving both seasonal flu vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine.
