Electing Coverage

If you are an undergraduate or law student electing coverage through the school sponsored insurance plan, you do not need to take any action— undergraduate and law students are automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan.

Undergraduate and law students are afforded one opportunity in each academic year to waive enrollment in the student health insurance plan. If these students do not submit an online health insurance waiver, they will be automatically enrolled in (and charged for) coverage through the Student Health Insurance Plan.  Waiver forms must be completed at the start of EACH academic year.

These same rules also apply to students who are participating in overseas and off-campus programs, both international and domestic. The exception is that students who are participating in fall or spring overseas programs may elect to enroll in student health insurance for just one semester (fall or spring/summer) during the academic year.  See our Overseas Health Insurance webpage for more information.

Students in the Graduate School of Education and Counseling (GSEC) are not required to have health insurance, but it is strongly encouraged. GSEC students who wish to enroll in coverage must do each semester via the PacificSource Online Enrollment System. The enrollment window opens each semester about one month prior to the policy period. GSEC students must enroll within 31 days from the effective date of coverage each semester (fall semester deadline is October 1, 2023 and spring semester deadline is February 1, 2024). It is the student’s responsibility to purchase coverage each semester by the enrollment deadline. GSEC students who choose to enroll in the student health insurance plan pay insurance premiums directly to PacificSource, not to Lewis & Clark.  If you are a GSEC student who is interested in enrolling for 2023 summer coverage, please click here for more information or to enroll.
