Friends of Rain

Inaugural Concert at the Smithy (a.k.a. Smith Hall)
Saturday, February 18, 7:30p.m.

The newly-formed faculty contemporary ensemble of Lewis & Clark College, the Friends of Rain includes every performing member of the faculty. On this first program, they will perform Takemitsu's landmark 14-musician masterpiece Rain Coming, under the baton of George Skipworth, as well as world premieres by faculty composers Forrest Pierce, Michael Johanson, and Jeff Leonard.

The Friends of Rain resident guest composer for the week of the concert will be Dorothy Chang, of the University of British Columbia. Dr. Chang will present public lectures, open rehearsals and master classes throughout the week of February 11-18. The Friends of Rain will perform her stunning work Chamber Variations at the inaugural concert.

A pre-concert talk given by artistic director Forrest Pierce and Dr. Chang will begin at 6:45 p.m., with the performance at 7:30 p.m..

Admission is free to all, with a suggested donation of $15 taken at the door.

Complimentary tickets are available in advance at the College Bookstore.

Seating in the Smith is limited to 150, so please come early.
