Kalakendra Presents: Heartbeat

South Indian Percussion Ensemble

The Lewis & Clark Music Department joins Kalakendra in presenting this exciting and unusual ensemble of South Indian percussion instruments along with melodic accompaniment of violin and mandolin. You will hear them play on ghatam, a clay pot; kanjira, a small hand-held drum; mridangam, a two-headed drum; morsing, a mouth harp; and konnakol, vocalized rhythm. The group is very popular in India and has traveled on tour to Europe and the U. S.

A limited number of free advanced tickets are available at the College Bookstore for Lewis & Clark students and staff. Tickets are also free to Kalakendra members.
