Literature of the Lewis and Clark Expedition
Jefferson Library, Monticello
January-April 2003
This exhibit draws from the extensive collection of books, maps, manuscripts, newspapers and literary materials on the expedition at Lewis & Clark College. The exhibit shares highlights of the holdings. The college has thousands of volumes on Native Americans, exploration and travel, and the history of the American West.
Concurrent with this exhibit, the college has published The Literature of the Lewis and Clark Expedition: A Bibliography and Essays (2003), with bibliography by Douglas Erickson, Jeremy Skinner, and Paul Merchant and essays by Stephen Dow Beckham. The book provides detailed information for readers, researchers, book collectors and others wanting to explore the expedition and its impact over the past 200 years.
The exhibit is currently scheduled to travel to The Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia for the Summer 2003, and the Louisville Free Public Library in October 2003, with additional sites to be named.
