The only individual ever to receive the Presidential Award for Sustainable Development, the nation's highest environmental honor, William McDonough is an internationally renowned architect and designer. A proponent of what he calls the "Next Industrial Revolution," Mr. McDonough advocates ecologically intelligent design and business strategies that create and sustain global prosperity. Time magazine recognized them as a "Hero for the Planet," stating that "his utopianism is grounded in a unified philosophy that- in demonstrable and practical ways -is changing the design of the world."
