Written in the second half of 17th Century in France, Tartuffe is considered one of the masterpieces of neoclassical comedy. The author examines mercilessly the evil which men can commit in the guise of religious fervor and the dangers which imperil those who would believe only what they choose to believe despite a veritable mountain of evidence to the contrary.
