PSY 190 - Culture, Films and Psychology

Content: This course examines the relations between culture and human behavior through the lens of film. The films in the class illustrate how cultural forces and cultural transitions shape worldview, individual identity and personality, child development, family structure and dynamics, personal relationships, social perception, and other aspects of behavior relevant to psychology. Students will read and learn about a variety of cultures and cultural influences, gain knowledge about theories and methods in cultural psychology, and learn how culture shapes film and how film can reflect and shape culture.

Prerequisite: None. Not open to students with previous credit in Psychology 290/390 Cross-Cultural Psychology.
