Mission

The Environmental Justice Advocates' mission is to advocate for and support, through direct action and the law, communities’ efforts toward environmental justice.

Overview

Environmental Justice Advocates (EJA) is a Lewis & Clark Law School student group that pursues environmental justice through direct action and scholarship.

wetland with city & windmillsEnvironmental justice is the idea that the income, race, or ethnicity of communities should not correlate to their quality of living environment, nor should members of these communities be asked to sacrifice their jobs or homes to gain a safe living environment. Pursuit of environmental justice must be rooted in the communities where the problems (and solutions) are; knowledge is an effective tool for change.

PROJECTS

The 2007 symposium was a huge success and EJA is striving to build upon the momentum with direct community projects.

Environmental Justice Advocates (EJA) is always looking for new projects that address community needs and promote environmental justice. If you have a project idea, please contact eja@lclark.edu.

2008 EJ Roundtable

EJA hosted an environmental justice roundtable on February 15, 2008. Steve Novick and Ashling McAneney, a clinical professor at Golden Gate Law School, discussed their professional and academic EJ experience. EJA then led a discussion of how to prepare law students to work on EJ issues.
