Article Published in LCLR Vol. 10, Issue 2 Wins Prestigious Burton Award

In Volume 10 Issue 2, the Lewis and Clark Law Review published an article written by Christopher A. Harkins, an attorney at Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione. In his article Tattoos and Copyright Infringement: Celebrities, Marketers, and Businesses Beware of the Ink, Mr. Harkins explores the application of current copyright law to body art and tattoo artists' rights in their designs. Mr. Harkins received the prestigious Burton Award this year in recognition of his excellent scholarship.

Created in 1999, the Burton Foundation is a nonprofit academic organization that concentrates on legal writing and is associated with the Law Library of Congress. Though the Foundation currently recognizes several achievements in the legal field, its primary purpose is to promote clear and concise legal writing as opposed to the archaic prose that remains more of a burden than a conduit for understanding the law.

The Burton Award is an annual recognition for legal writing. The Foundation only considers nominations by the managing partners of the 1000 largest U.S. law firms and the Deans of law schools. This year, forty-five awards were given out to thirty law firm participants and fifteen law school participants. A full list of winners can be accessed at http://www.burtonawards. com/

The Lewis & Clark Law Review staff congratulates Mr. Harkins on his achievement.
