We Welcome Your Manuscripts for Our Review
The Lewis & Clark Law Review welcomes manuscripts reflecting original scholarship in any area(s) of law. The review cannot return unsolicited manuscripts.
We publish pieces in the following categories:
Articles - Traditional law review articles may be submitted at any time of year.
Analyses - We welcome and encourage the submission of Analyses – substantive, formal law review pieces of approximately 20 to 30 pages in length and containing a maximum of 75 footnotes. Our decision to publish Analyses reflects our belief that the reigning law review article format is often ill-suited to the didactic purpose of the articles it regulates. Many substantive analytical topics may be better served by a more succinct, lightly-footnoted format. Analyses should avoid a lengthy review of the existing literature and excessive annotation. Instead, Analyses should focus on core analytical content. Analyses are not intended to be essays. Rather, they should incorporate the full analytical content of a traditional law review article, only without the surplusage. It is our hope that authors and readers alike will profit from these Analyses, and that ultimately they will comprise the majority of our publication.
Dialogues - We particularly encourage the submission of tandem Articles or Analyses in an argument/reply or argument/reply/surreply format. We are happy to hear in advance from authors who would like to propose a dialogue on a particular topic.
Book Reviews - We also accept unsolicited book review submissions. Book reviews should be shorter than traditional law review articles. We are also happy to hear in advance from authors who would like to propose to review a particular book in our pages.
Student Notes - Please note that we publish student notes written by Lewis & Clark Law School students only.
Citations to authority in a manuscript should conform to the most recent edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (Harvard Law Review Association).
