Developing Animal Law Curriculum
As law students, you are in a unique position to help foster and develop animal law courses, seminars, and clinics at your law school.
- Gather support from students. Petitions are a fabulous way to let administrators know how many people would be willing to take a course and support the proposal.
- Gather support from administration and faculty.
- Encourage a current faculty member to teach, or help find a local attorney willing to teach on an adjunct basis. Try contacting your local bar association or contact NCAL for assistance.
- Many times new teachers find it encouraging to see other professors' syllabus and course formats. Please contact NCAL if you would like additional information.
- Write a detailed proposal showing the number of schools already teaching animal law, the growth and legitimacy of the field, available professors, and syllabus. Click here for a good sample.
- While the financial consideration of a new course is not normally the main hurdle in establishing a course, if you find that to be an issue, please contact NCAL for suggestions of how to fund your course.
