Hogan Animal Law Award

The Hogan Award recognizes a recent Lewis & Clark Law School graduate for their outstanding dedication and success in the field of animal law. The award is intended to encourage current students to strive to reach their goals of becoming a
voice for animals in the legal system.

Lewis & Clark Law School student Amy Humphrey has established this award to honor her loyal Jack Russell Terrier, Hogan.

RECIPIENTS


The 2007 Hogan Award was presented to Geoff Evans, Fellow with the animal protection law firm of Evans & Page in San Francisco, California. Geoff's work includes advancing legal protections for companion animals, protecting farmed animals, and representing animal advocates. As a Lewis & Clark Law student, he was Editor in Chief of the Animal Law Review, Co-Director of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, and interned with the Humane Society of the United States.


The 2006 Hogan Award honored Peter Brandt, Staff Attorney with the Animal Protection Litigation section of The Humane Society of the United States. Peter is a 2004 graduate who was involved in the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, was an Associate Editor with the Animal Law Review, and earned a summer stipend to work on factory farm issues with the Sierra Club. At HSUS, Peter has been instrumental in influencing the USDA to reverse their decades old policy on farm animal transport; challenged California's tax breaks for battery cages; and was instrumental in saving hundreds of chickens in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
