16th Annual PILP Auction
February 25, 2006

PILP's 16th annual auction, "Building Interest in Public Interest," was an absolute success. More than 500 alumni, students, professors, and Lewis & Clark community members attended, raising over $89,000. Proceeds from the auction funded at least 18 stipends, several LRAP dividends, and contributed to the creation of a Pro Bono coordinator within the Career Services office.

15th Annual PILP Auction
February 26, 2005

PILP's 15th annual auction, "Raising the Bar," was an unequivocal success. More than 500 alumni, students, professors, and Lewis & Clark community members attended, raising over $82,000. Proceeds from the auction will funded at least 18 stipends and LRAP dividends, and a newly created LRAP clerk position who will work towards enlarging the school's LRAP endowment.

The generous annual donations by Board of Visitors members Carr Ferguson and Mark Tratos were once again quite popular. Mr. Ferguson's Week in Greenwich Village, packaged with Broadway tickets donated by Michael Joseph Fleming, New York Ballet production posters donated by the JFK Center for Performing Arts, and roundtrip tickets donated by Southwest Airlines, raised $2,100 for PILP. Mr. Tratos' all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas, packaged with cigars donated by Richard and Pat Bendix fetched $1,700.

Highlights from the auction included the heated bidding and a double sale for $1,500 of "Wine Tasting by the Masters of Grape," Larry Amburgey and Professor Ed Brunet, Raising $3,000 for PILP. Another last-minute donation came from Dean James Huffman. After watching frenzied bidding over a reserved faculty parking spot donated by Professor Dan Rohlf, Dean Huffman offered another spot for the other bidder! Together, Professor Rohlf and Dean Huffman raised $1,800 for PILP and made several students very, very happy.

Most importantly, the PILP stipend program funds law students working at public interest organizations during the summer that would not otherwise be able to fund a law clerk position. For a list of organizations that have received stipends in the past and detailed information about the stipend program, click here.

In addition, a portion of the money raised at the auction will fund Lewis & Clark Law School's Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP). LRAP is designed to help recent graduates working in low-paying public interest jobs pay back their law school loans. For more information about LRAP, click here.

PILP would like to thank everyone who generously donated to the auction as well as those who attended and helped make the event a success.

Equal Justice Works Conference
October 28-29, 2004
Washington, DC

The Equal Justice Works conference was full of helpful workshops, including topics such as "Can You Afford a Career in Public Interest Law," "Launching a Social Justice Career Through a Non-Traditional Fellowship," and "Working With Your Administration." The conference also featured panels of practioners in specific niches of public interest law, such as environmental, immigration, housing, violence againt women, and more. It was a fabulous opportunity to network, interview, and learn from attorneys, students, former fellowship recipients, and recruiters from more than 100 public interest employers from across the nation. No-Talent Show
November 3, 2004

On November 3rd, students showed off their "talents" to create awareness on campus about Lewis and Clark's Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) in the annual PILP No Talent Show. From poetry readings to canine friend tricks to a Bush, Kerry, Nader beer drinking contest, observers keenly watched the performers while enjoying bagels donated from Noah's and beer donated from the SBA. Thanks to Apsara Salon & Spa, Lake Twin Cinema, Tan Rio, Lakeside Bicycles, and Starbucks, each extremely talented participant in the Show had the opportunity to take their pick of a prize for sharing their stellar abilities with the student body. The No Talent Show provided a great venue for getting word out about the LRAP and the many things organizations like PILP are doing to make practicing in public interest law a tenable goal.
