Join Biology professor Ken Clifton for an afternoon of bird watching at Ridgfield National Wildlife Refuge.  Hike through this area of wetlands and forest along  channels of the Columbia River and spot dozens of  majestic birds.

Hike the Oregon Coast an Overnight at Neskowin!

Signup Start: Friday, Feb 16

Visit a lighthouse, ancient forests, coastal beaches, and spectacular overlooks on this weekend trip to hike and explore the area around Cape Lookout and Neskowin, Oregon.  We’ll stay in the enchanting Neskowin Valley and have a central lodge with a fireplace to cook meals, hang out in the evenings, and stay warm and dry. Spring comes to the Oregon Coast  a few weeks earlier than Portland, so the frogs will entertain you at night with their choruses, and the first wildflowers will be blooming.

Lewis & Clark National Historic Park Service Project

Trip sign-up begins: Friday, February 9

Come visit the beautiful Lewis & Clark National Historic Park at Fort Clatsup near the mouth of the Columbia river in northwest Oregon.  This park features spectacularly lush coastal forests dripping with moss, as well as rich northwest history. We’ll head out Friday after dinner, spend the night in cozy yurts, and volunteer for the park on
Saturday before heading back to campus in time for dinner. This is a great chance to explore a fascinating area and give back to the parks we love!

Waterfall Hike in the Columbia Gorge

Come visit some of the spectacular waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge! Less than an hour from campus are striking trails through lush forests dripping with ferns and mosses. Along the way, you’ll see amazing waterfalls and the fascinating rock formations that they tumble over.

Mt Adams Snowshoe & Ice Caves w/Prof. Anne Bentley

Trip Sign-up begins: Friday, January 26th
Join chemistry professor Anne Bentley on a snowshoe trip to the ice caves on Mt. Adams! Snowshoe through beautiful evergreen forest to a lava tube cave that traps cold air and moisture to form breathtaking ice formations, including ice stalactites and columns. We’ll hike down into the heart of the ice cave and learn about ice crystal formation. Snowshoeing takes a fair amount of energy, but it is great exercise and doesn’t require any previous experience.
