The Academic English Studies (AES) program is the English language program at Lewis & Clark. Students who submit a minimum TOEFL score of 500 may enroll in the AES program for full-time (18 hours per week) or part-time English study.
AES courses focus on an integration of language skills and cover a variety of subjects. Students enroll in a combination of content-based and skill-based courses that prepare them to successfully undertake their undergraduate studies. The AES program offers full-time (18 hours per week) and part-time instruction in advanced-level English language courses for undergraduate elective credit. This L&C credit may be applied toward a Bachelor of Arts degree. English classes closely approximate undergraduate classes in teaching style, content, and expectations. The curriculum is designed to assist students in the development of essential language skills, appropriate learning strategies, and the cross-cultural awareness and sensitivities considered necessary for successful completion of their Lewis & Clark undergraduate studies. The AES program offers courses during both semesters of the academic year; an intensive summer session is also scheduled.
