Bio312: Fall 2000
DNA Strider* is a software program designed to automate and simplify analysis of DNA sequences. The Biology Dept at Lewis & Clark College has recently purchased a site license for version 1.3, which is fully compatible with Mac operating systems 7 through 9. Strider is designed to be a simple, affordable, straightforward program which is powerful enough to perform most sequence analyses without a lot of fancy extra features.
This guide is designed to lead you through the construction of a restriction map of a recombinant plasmid, to allow you to complete the lab report assignment for Bio312, week 7. Strider can do much more than design a restriction map, and you are encouraged to explore its other features. The program has been installed on the biology department's laptop computers, as well as most of the desktop computers in Blue, Red, and Green labs.
