The following message was emailed March 31, 2004 to Professor Marty Hart-Landsberg from a 2001 Lewis & Clark grad that reads as follows:
Marty,
I hope you remember me! I just wanted to thank you for a seemingly insignificant piece of advice you gave me back in 1998. We sat down in your office and discussed my options as far as selecting a major. You advised that if I wanted to go to business school in the future, I may be better off with an economics degree, as opposed to a business degree.
Luckily, I gook your advice and graduate with my econ degree in 2001. The economics degree put me into a rare demographic for most top business schools - only about 12% of applicants have econ background. This came in particularly useful because I was applying with just over 3 years of work experience, when the average is well over 5! I have recently been accepted to the SC Johnson School of Management at Cornell University, and I owe my thanks to your advice and coursework!
Sincerely,
Dan Dombey
