Gospel: Mark 11:1-11
P: When they were approaching Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the
Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples and said to them, "Go into
the village ahead of you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find tied
there a colt that has never been ridden; untie it and bring it. If anyone says
to you, `Why are you doing this?' just say this, `The Lord needs it and will
send it back here immediately.'" They went away and found a colt tied near
a door, outside in the street. As they were untying it, some of the bystanders
said to them, "What are you doing, untying the colt?" They told them
what Jesus had said; and they allowed them to take it. Then they brought the
colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it; and he sat on it. Many people spread
their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut
in the fields. Then those who went ahead and those who followed were shouting,
C: "Hosanna!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!"
P: Then he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple; and when he had looked
around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the
twelve.

Lesson: Philippians 2:5-11
A: Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was
in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the
point of death- even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every
tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

All glory, laud, and honor

great author of all goodness,

P: We remember:
C: The crowd took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, shouting,
"Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord-- the King
of Israel!"
P: We remember:
C: Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it; as it is written: "Do
not be afraid, daughter of Zion. Look, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's
colt!"
P: We remember and listen and watch and follow:
C: His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when
Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written
of him and had been done to him.

First Lesson: Isaiah 50:4-9a
The Lord God has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain
the weary with a word. Morning by morning he wakens- wakens my ear to listen
as those who are taught. The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious,
I did not turn backward. I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks
to those who pulled out the beard; I did not hide my face from insult and spitting.
The Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have
set my face like flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame; he who
vindicates me is near. Who will contend with me? Let us stand up together. Who
are my adversaries? Let them confront me. It is the Lord God who helps me; who
will declare me guilty? All of them will wear out like a garment; the moth will
eat them up.
Psalm 31:9-16
A: Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eye wastes away from
grief, my soul and body also.
C: For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength
fails because of my misery, and my bones waste away. I am the scorn of all my
adversaries, a horror to my neighbors, an object of dread to my acquaintances;
those who see me in the street flee from me. I have passed out of mind like
one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel. For I hear the whispering
of many- terror all around!- as they scheme together against me, as they plot
to take my life.
A: But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, "You are my God." My times
are in your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors. Let
your face shine upon your servant; save me in your steadfast love.

Washing of Feet: John 13:1-17, 31b-35
Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to
depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in
the world, he loved them to the end. The devil had already put it into the heart
of Judas son of Simon Iscariot to betray him. And during supper Jesus, knowing
that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from
God and was going to God, got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and
tied a towel around himself. Then he poured water into a basin and began to
wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around
him. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash
my feet?" Jesus answered, "You do not know now what I am doing, but
later you will understand." Peter said to him, "You will never wash
my feet." Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no share with
me." Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, not my feet only but also my
hands and my head!" Jesus said to him, "One who has bathed does not
need to wash, except for the feet, but is entirely clean. And you are clean,
though not all of you." For he knew who was to betray him; for this reason
he said, "Not all of you are clean." After he had washed their feet,
had put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said to them, "Do
you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord-and you are right,
for that is what I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have set you an example, that
you also should do as I have done to you. Very truly, I tell you, servants are
not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent
them. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
When he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man has been glorified,
and God has been glorified in him. If God has been glorified in him, God will
also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once. Little children, I
am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the
Jews so now I say to you, `Where I am going, you cannot come.' I give you a
new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also
should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another."

Holy Communion:
P: Through the death and resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, you have won
for us the restoration of our selves. In the bread and wine you have given us
the wherewithal to receive the sustenance of true life.
For in the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ, took the bread,
and after giving thanks, blessed it, broke it, giving it to all to eat saying,
“This is my body which is broken for you.”
After the supper, taking the cup, he blessed it and gave it to all to drink
saying, “This is the new covenant in my blood which is shed for you.”
Remembering this life saving grace and incredible sacrifice, we join with all
creation in praising your name, now and forever.
C: Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
P: Let us pray the prayer Jesus taught us,
C: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your
will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us
our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.
