Connect to PIO-NET in Platt Residence Hall

We strongly recommend Platt residents connect via LC Wireless.

If you do not have an 802.11 wireless adapter for your computer, call or visit the Computer Store for our latest recommendations. If the Computer Store does not stock a wireless adapter that will work with your system, they can recommend reasonably priced adapters for any computer that meets LC Wireless minimum system specifications.

Below are set-up instructions for those residents who choose to use the slower DSL over Ethernet network.

Connect to PIO-NET using DSL and Ethernet

  1. Before you start, you must check out a DSL box from the Main IT Office in the Watzek Library. Students must check out the DSL box in person in order to sign the DSL Box loan agreement. If your roommate has already checked out a box, there is no need to check out a second box.
  2. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable you receive with the DSL box into the connector on your computer. Locate one of the Ethernet ports on the DSL adapter (labeled 'Ethernet') and insert the other end of the cable until it clicks.
  3. Connect the telephone cable to one of the telephone ports labeled 'A' and 'B' on your DSL adapter. Plug the other end of the telephone cable into the telephone jack on the wall.
  4. Connect the telephone filter to the telephone port. Connect your telephone or answering machine to the telephone filter. If you do not use a filter with your telephone, your DSL connection may not work. Below is a picture of a connected DSL Adapter.

  5. Start your computer (restarting is recommended if your computer is already on) and launch a web browser such as Safari or Internet Explorer. Most computers have default network software settings that work with the L&C network and your browser will load our network registration page web page. At this point, follow the online prompts.
