Wireless Networking

Wireless network access at Lewis & Clark College is available in:
Fir Acres Campus
: Watzek Library, JR Howard Hall, Olin Center for Physics & Chemistry, Maggie’s and the Dovecote, Fields Dining Hall, Stamm, Thayer, Council Chambers, most of Albany and Griswold Stadium. There is also now an access point in the student Co-op in Tamarack Lounge.
South Campus: the Commons, Rogers 108 and Rogers 219.
Law Campus: All buildings are covered.

It is possible to access online reserves, read e-mail and browse the Web from any of these access points.

The LC wireless network uses the Wi-Fi (802.11b) network protocol. You cannot use a standard 10BT Ethernet card to connect your laptop computer to this network – you will need to use a wireless Wi-Fi network adapter. Apple Computer’s Airport cards are compatible with all Wi-Fi networks as well. Keep in mind that these network cards will only connect you to a wireless network; they will not replace the 10BT Ethernet card normally used to connect your computer to the network in the Residence Halls and office areas. Compatible wireless network cards can be purchased from the Computer Showroom. If you are not sure if you need a card or want advice on how to best connect to the network on campus, please contact the IT Help Desk at (x7225).

If you already have a wireless network card or you purchased a laptop computer with built-in wireless connectivity, stop by or call the IT Help Desk (x7225) for assistance configuring your card to work with the LC wireless network. Instructions are also available via the IT Helpsheet Web Page. Law School students can find instructions at the Law School Helpsheet Web Page, or see the Student Lab Assistant in the computer lab in Wood Hall.

Additional expansion of the wireless network throughout the campus is planned.
