Rafting on the Deschutes River and Camping at Timothy Lake on Mt. Hood

Lewis and Clark is located less than two hours from the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains. It is very easy to plan trips to take advantage of the beautiful natural resources which surround us! Students and staff took a two day trip for rafting and camping and we all had a great time! Have a look at the photos, listen to what students say, and read their stories about the trip. We hope you'll join us here in Portland for English study and recreation!

The Best Trip

Last weekend, I went for a trip with the ISALC. It was a very interesting trip and had a lot of activities like rafting, camping, and fishing. It was interesting because most of the teachers went with us.

The best time on my trip was the rafting part because it was long and had a lot of adventure. The rafting part was very long, about 14 miles. I liked it because it required a lot of work and also all the members in the boat had to paddle at the same time, and what made this rafting even more interesting was the water in the river ran quickly so we had to be serious about that. We were in three boats, so there was a competition between us and the other boats. There were a lot of holes in the river and the most interesting one for me was the biggest one because when we went to pass it, we dropped into it and the water was covering us and if you were in the boat you would just see the water.

In conclusion, I was very excited with this trip and I hope it will happen again with the ISALC because we had a lot of fun and nice things. I'm going to tell my friends about this trip and urge them to go. The other wonderful thing is when you see the pictures and remember what happened on the trip and how it was. Really, it was very nice trip and next time I will encourage all the students to go if the same trip happens.

The Summer Trip

The summertime in Oregon is very nice. We organized a trip to go camping and rafting. The rafting was very interesting. That was the first time for me to go rafting, so before we started I was a little scared, but when we rode the boat I liked the river and rafting. There are some parts in the river which are very exciting, called "white water." The water in this place is very fast, and the water came over us at that time. There are many people who like this sport and I do too. The best moment in my trip was in the biggest hole. The guide told us, "You have to paddle really fast!" And we obeyed him. When we passed the biggest hole, we were very happy. All together, we spent four hours rafting.

When we finished rafting, some of our friends suggested fishing and we went to the market. We bought a fishing license and also the supplies for fishing. We went camping too. Debbie, one of our teachers, prepared everything and we took half an hour to build our tents. After that, we prepared our gear for fishing. Some people fished and some people didn't. We came back to the camping spot, lit a fire, sat around the fire, and we talked about the interesting moments on the rafting trip. We ate dinner, and after that we made a party for Debbie because it was her birthday.

In conclusion, this trip was very interesting and exciting. There were many parts to the trip, and if I have the chance, I will go on this trip again and spend another nice time.

My First Time

Last weekend, I went to camp and raft. It was interesting, and it was my first time. First, we went rafting on the Deschutes River. We rode in a boat and floated on the river. I liked it because it was exciting and interesting. At the same time, I watched beautiful nature and animals. Some places, the water ran quickly, and we had to hold onto the boat. Then we went over the rapids. It was exciting!

When we finished rafting, we went camping at Timothy Lake. The place is very beautiful. We did many things. We had a barbecue, sat around the campfire, listened to everybody tell interesting things, and slept in a tent.

I enjoyed last week. Everything was the first time for me. But my English isn't good, so I didn't speak a lot. I just listened. I hope I'll speak a lot and learn more next time.
