Our Trip to the Beach

On Aug. 12, 2000, we went on a field trip to Fort Clatsop and Seaside, a city on the coast. Fort Clatsop is where Meriwether Lewis and William Clark (Lewis & Clark!) spent the winter of 1805-1806, at the end of their journey to the Pacific Ocean. They and their crew spent the rainy winter months writing in their journals, making maps, and taking notes. They also collected food and supplies for their trip back home.

Here are some thumbnail pictures of our visit to Fort Clatsop. Click on them to see the large versions.

The city of Seaside, Oregon, is on the coast. We enjoyed walking on the sand and getting our feet wet. But the water was SO COLD!! We were surprised. It was a beautiful day to relax on the beach and play in the sand.

Seaside is a real "tourist town" with many small shops, video games, restaurants, and of course a beautiful beach, where tourists can rent bicycles and play in the water.

Finally, at the end of the day, we came home on the bus. We were all tired, but we had a lot of fun!
